Ants as geomorphological agents: A global assessment

چکیده

Ants are abundant in most of the world's terrestrial environments. They energetic, strong for their size, numerous, and socially cooperative. play many geomorphologically important roles. In particular, they construct mounds subterranean galleries, create patterned ground, a role bioturbation, affect vegetation cover soil properties (such as infiltration rate) influence runoff erosion. also roles biogeochemical cycling rock mineral weathering. Here, we review reanalyse data collected from over 80 studies on ant contributions to geomorphology around world. The clearest manifestation geomorphological ants is found various constructions, such mounds. There can be hundreds or thousands per hectare, with median density 125 ha−1 recorded reviewed. longevity these features varies some stable while others highly erodible. construction galleries causes bioturbation (pedoturbation), which share termites, worms mammals. A rate 1.5 t a−1 derived produce ground through effects vegetation. relationships between activity erosion complex not consistent. Bioturbation soil, tunnelling activity, underground chambers, macro-pores, removal and/or accumulation organic material, changes cover, all mechanisms by might modify characteristics. Because effect rates, sediment provision have profound movement slopes. Only modest amount work has been done investigate that greatly affected human activities (especially land changes), geomorphologically-active species proved invasive. response future climate needs further investigation.

O1: Anxiety As a Global Problem

Several investigations demonstrated that anxiety is the most common mental health disorder worldwide affected about one in 13 people. Anxiety disorders are more commonly reported in Western societies but it is also a main health problem in non-Western countries as stress and anxiety levels have drastically increased over the last two decades. Several wars in Middle Eastern countries in the last...

Synanthropic Ants as Vectors of Pathogens in Hospitals of Iran

Background: Synanthropic ants can transmit pathogens especially in hospital environments,  but this fact had not been confirmed in Palaearctic region. This is the first study on confirming this ability of ants in this region. Methods: Three hospitals of Bandar Abbas, Iran have been selected for monthly sampling of ants in their various wards. The main processe...

ANTS: Agents on Networks, Trees, and Subgraphs

Efficient exploration of large networks is a central issue in data mining and network maintenance applications. In most existing work there is a distinction between the active ‘searcher’ which both executes the algorithm and holds the memory and the passive ‘searched graph’ over which the searcher has no control at all. Large dynamic networks like the Internet, where the nodes are powerful comp...

Global Recessions as a Cascade Phenomenon with Interacting Agents

This paper examines global recessions as a cascade phenomenon. In other words, how recessions arising within one or more countries might percolate across a network of connected economies. An agent based model is set up in which the agents are Western economies. A country has a probability of entering recession in any given year and one of emerging from it the next. In addition, the agents have ...
